The Mandalorian & Grogu Star Wars Film to be Directed by Jon Favreau

"The Mandalorian" broke ground as the first Star Wars live-action series on Disney+, and a lot of that success was thanks to a little baby Yoda creature named Grogu.

Now, both The Mandalorian and Grogu are making their way to the big screen in an upcoming Star Wars film titled… The Mandalorian & Grogu. The new film — which will be directed and produced by Jon Favreau — is in addition to a movie already announced at last year’s Star Wars Celebration that will combine characters from the Mando-verse and be directed by Filoni.

“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Favreau said in a statement that appeared alongside the announcement on starwars.com. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

The movie will go into production this year, and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy added, “Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen.”

Sigourney Weaver has achieved an honor that most can only dream of: spending quality time with Baby Yoda.

The Oscar-nominated actress has confirmed that she is joining Mando and his little green buddy for a trip through the galaxy in the upcoming The Mandolorian & Grogu film.

“I’m playing a role in The Mandalorian & Grogu,” Weaver told Deadline in an Aug. 27 interview, adding, “I got to meet Grogu for the first time the other day. I’m filming that before I go to London for The Tempest at the end of the year.”

Weaver was tight-lipped about her character's details but admitted to playing a “very” fun part in the movie.

“I’m looking forward to it,” she said. “I can’t say much about it right now but it’s fun to bounce between all these different universes.”
