The year before Mary Poppins premiered, Johns starred in the short-lived Glynis, a CBS sitcom built around her created by I Love Lucy head writer Jess Oppenheimer, in which she plays a mystery writer who solves crimes alongside her husband. Glynis aired on CBS from September through December 1963. Johns returned to CBS 25 years later in 1988 to star in another short-lived sitcom: the retirement community-set Coming of Age. Johns also had numerous guest TV roles, including as Diane Chambers' mom on the first season of Cheers.
