Does the Cheers connection have no real impact on the characters or the show

What I mean is that Frasier takes place on another coast (Seattle as opposed to Boston), and there are few truly overlapping characters. Frasier's son Frederick was still a toddler by the end of Cheers, and his dad was famously "dead" at the time. He of course, was later played by "Sy Flembeck" on the eventual spin-off.

And while the Frasier revival set in Boston, Frasier Crane now hangs out at Mahoney's (named after the actor who portrayed both Sy Flembeck and Martin Crane) as opposed to the Cheers bar. So does this further reinforce the notion that the original characters and setting have no real impact, especially in terms of the storyline?
