What songs were massive hits at the time yet today feel like they were much smaller?

Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice (I'll admit I've always hated the song). It went all the way to number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart. The song was everywhere for a little while, you couldn't get away from it. But the public quickly turned on him and pretty soon Vanilla Ice was forgotten about. In many song polls an overwhelming majority of people always say they hate the song. So who was listening to and buying it while it was a number one hit in America back then? LOL. I guess people are too embarrassed now to admit they liked it. But I'll never understand why people liked the song in the first place! ETA: And of course now you almost never hear Ice Ice Baby on the radio.
