A Warner Bros. Discovery-Paramount Global merger could lead to cable channel mini-mergers

WB Discovery already has its own legacy linear cable networks to bolster (TNT, TBS, Cartoon Network, Discovery, TLC et al) so a merger of the two could see mini-mergers of channels and probably the sunset of some once-stalwart cable brands.

The CEOs should have met with Disney do a 3 way merge since Disney wants to sell as well. The government would have a problem with ABC and CBS but they could move a few programs like Good Morning America to CBS, and then divest the rest of ABC to Elon Musk.

What a Warner Bros. Discovery-Paramount Global merger could mean to sports fans

Paramount+ and Max merging would only be the start.

Megacorporations merging and gobbling one another is nothing new, and the most recent on the cards is Warner acquiring Paramount … but ironically, Amber Heard driving audiences away from Aquaman 2 in the numbers she’s doing, might put an end to that! In this editorial, @AndreEinherjar will break down what is up with this deal ...

After 20th Century Fox was merged into the Walt Disney Company, I was kind of expecting Warner Bros. to merge with Universal, and Paramount to acquire Sony Pictures.

I bet this is because David Zaslav was getting tired of Warner Bros. TV shows on CBS getting shafted in favor of shows from CBS's in-house studio. The facts that both Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global have competing cable outlets (HBO and Showtime respectively), and Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon are mortal enemies are good reasons why such a merger doesn't need to happen.

Report: Warner Bros. Discovery is no longer pursuing a merger with Paramount Global

The merger that would've combined two iconic entertainment giants is not happening after "several months of kicking the tires," reports CNBC.
