Default Should Alimony be outlawed?

Alimony is what is paid to an ex Spouse after Divorce. I honestly don't get why People have to financially suppor another Adult they are no longer legally or blood bonded too. I get having to financially support CHILDREN, but not an ex Spouse, especially if the reason for the divorce is because the ex spouse cheated. For example, a guy said something like,"My Friend didn't sign a Prenup and his ex wife cheated on him. He divorced her because of her cheating affair and he has to pay her $2,000 in Alimony every month." That pisses me off! Why should the person who got cheated on have to pay Alimony? In the case of cheating causing a divorce, the person who cheated should either get no Alimony money or have to be the one paying Alimony. People shouldn't get paid for being cheaters and people shouldn't have to pay people who cheated on them.

In another extreme case, a couple got divorced and the ex wife had to pay Alimony. She was always richer than her husband in the marriage and financially supported him throughout the marriage. I think they divorced because they mutually decided they didn't love each other anymore. Ex Husband won the Lottery and the Judge ruled that the ex Wife STILL needed to pay Alimony, despite the ex Husband now being RICHER than ex Wife....WHAT? The ex wife understandably was pissed and is going to new courts to end the alimony. WHY would the judge still order her to pay Alimony to someone who won the Lottery? She's POORER than him now.

Like most things in modern American life, the laws are gerrymandered to benefit woman and penalize men.

If you are having alimony issues you need to get a lawyer. Before people get married they should sign a Pre-Nup. If people don't take time to understand the legal implications of getting married - that is on them. If people make a dumb decision when they could just look up the law before they got married - that is on them. It's not that hard.

Dumbo Babalu - used to work in law. The laws by far benefit men.

A lot of people before and when getting married only think short term and not long term. A WOMAN who ended up paying Alimony after her divorce said that she got advice to sign a Prenup before getting married, but she thought,"I owe a bunch of student loan money, I have a bunch of credit card debt and make $10 are hour. My Fiancee and I will be married until one of us dies. Prenups make zero sense for me." She didn't sign the Prenup . Lo and behold, she became a VERY wealthy Business during the marriage and she and her Husband divorced. She ended up having to pay him Alimony since she's now wealthy, ouch. She advised people to ALWAYS sign a Prenup.

I don't believe A LOT do prenups, those in high finances in their life may do this and probably do...the regular folks NOPE....I get the sense of a lot less marriages going on.

There is a woman I graduated high school with who I connected on Facebook. I barely knew her if at all in school but she made herself responsible for keeping the rest of us informed about people in our class and reunions.

She is a bank Vice President who I am sure makes more than a $100,000 a year. She was married to a man who was a Memphis firefighter who probably made 40 percent of her salary. They seemed happy but they weren’t and she started divorce proceedings against him. I don’t think he was abusive (only met him once) but supposedly the “last straw” was her making so much money he wasn’t in public and that was that. He was also a “Facebook friend” who briefly married another woman which failed in under a year.

I think the subject of alimony came up and I asked him about thr arrangement between he and his ex-wife (who had no children, and she has no children and never will) and he said he had to pay her from part of his pension, or something. again she made probably over a 100k while he made probably 40k and they had no children and being married to him didnt ****** her career advancement.
