I didn't really enjoy the reunion, but I would prefer it exist than if it didn't. It's funny how Dick Van Dyke seemed to be more concerned with how the actors looked old. But I think the bigger problem is the story was rather sparse. I guess because it was designed to fit in all the clips. But personally I dislike clip shows, so that was my biggest problem with it. I would have preferred an all new story with a little more meat on it.

I recorded it back then.
I wasn’t happy with the language used in a certain part that frankly was totally unnecessary. Sally said after Van Dyke cursed (in acceptable-for-2004-TV language), “Where did he learn those words?” Laura responded, “from watching cable TV.” Not funny. Carl was not at the top of his game by this time, of course, but the whole plot (a living eulogy?) was creepy. It WAS good to see Jerry Van Dyke & Ann Guilbert (now a widow on the show) there and hitting it off. Also good that Sally married Glimscher. I don’t even remember him. How many original episodes was he in? And the worst part was Ray Romano at the end. I won’t go there. cd |

I thought the reunion was pretty good, I don't know what people were expecting. It was low-key but it was nice to see them all together again and having Bill Idelson there was a great touch. Remembering Mel and Buddy, I thought the special touched all the bases. The interactions between the characters seemed believable, it's hard to put something like that together and get the actors into the rhythm of those characters almost 40 years later.
