When Jack meets Terri for the very first time after he cut his finger and had to go to the hospital, Terri tells Jack that he has to get a tetanus shot. Jack is obviously afraid of getting a shot and soon, Terri informs him that he has to get a shot in his butt. Okay, I get that Jack is afraid of getting a shot, since it's completely natural for people to be afraid of such a thing.
But why and how did it suddenly turn into to the notion that Jack didn't want a woman like Terri giving him a shot? I guess, I don't understand what the big deal is whether a man or a woman gives you a shot as long as they're a trained medical professional like a nurse in Terri's case. I mean, it isn't like Jack isn't aware that women work at the hospital before he encountered Terri. I find it funny that Jack is much more comfortable with the idea of a man giving him a shot up his naked rear-end (the man in question, turns out to be the janitor) than he is with a beautiful woman like Terri. |

Its a sitcom and the scripts are written for laughs, not reality. Reality is a tetanus shot is not even given in the butt. Its given in the arm. But its funnier for Jack have to expose his butt for his future roommate. This indirectly leads to Jack not wanting her to be their roommate. And we get a suspense 2 part cliff hanger if Terri moves in. But wait! Larry's got an idea to chase Terri away with gag tricks

I don't think he cares. This was just an excuse for him to not get the shot whether it's from a man or woman.

I always took it that Jack didn't want Terri to see his butt.
Also, in the tattoo episode he wouldn't let her see it and he was ok with Larry seeing it.

It was one of those episodes where Jack was out of character. For most of the series, Jack is a very caring individual with very few hang ups, but then he becomes so unreasonable while waiting (which he does not and has tantrums). I really don't like Jack in that two-parter because they have him acting like a 2 year old.

I saw Terri's introductory episode again the other day, and I still find what Terri accused Jack of as weird. Basically, Terri said point blank to Jack, "You don't want me to assist you because I'm a woman!" I'm of course, paraphrasing, but that's basically the gist of where Terri was going with that type of statement.
When at any point did Jack even clearly imply that he didn't want a woman to give him medical attention? To me, Terri was practically making a straw man argument. That would almost be like if a chef like Jack happens to be female and suddenly, accuses the person that they're serving of not liking the way that the food tastes simply because a woman cooked it. |

While we're on this subject, how come Terri doesn't wear latex gloves when administering Jack a shot?
![]() Was is simply not mandatory yet or "the norm" in the United States back in 1981? |

But the glove part is the least of it. Tetanus shots are not given in the butt. Also no one would just jam a needle into someone like that. But its done for comedy. |
