"The Last of Us" Season 2 To Go into Production in Early 2024 as HBO Eyes 2025 Premiere

"The Last of Us" will be heading into production for its second season early next year with an eye for a 2025 launch.

HBO boss Casey Bloys revealed the news at an event in New York.

It’s a case of good news-bad news for "The Last of Us fans" who have been patiently waiting more than a year for new episodes of HBO‘s award-winning drama adaptation based on the acclaimed video game.

When Season 2 finally arrives in 2025, it will be shorter than Season 1, consisting of seven episodes. But the good news is that a potential third season will be “significantly larger” and possibly bigger in scope, and there could very well be a Season 4 coming behind it according to series co-creators, executive producers, showrunners and directors Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann.

Plus, one of the Season 2 episodes will be “quite big” in length.

HBO Sets Premiere Date for "The Last of Us" Season 2

Feb. 19, 2025

Season 2 of "The Last of Us" will debut on April 13 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, which means it’ll be picking up the Sunday marquee time slot from "The White Lotus" after the third season of Mike White’s series concludes.

As always, the episodes will be available to stream on Max at the same time that they air on HBO.
