The first two parts are up now:

Quote:
Actor Todd Bridges, best known for playing Willis Jackson on the classic TV show "Diff'rent Strokes," was recently interviewed by Vlad. During the conversation, Bridges discussed how the show was unique for its time, tackling serious issues that other TV productions avoided. He also lamented how certain things said and done on television today would have resulted in cancellation back in his day. Born and raised in San Francisco, Bridges began his acting career early, with his first TV role on Barney Miller and movie roles alongside Henry Winkler and Sissy Spacek. He also fondly recalled meeting all the famous people he loved growing up, including Lena Horne, Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson.

Quote:
Actor Todd Bridges shared his traumatic childhood experiences of being sexually abused by a family friend and publicist when he was ten or eleven years old. During an intimate interview, Bridges revealed that his personal battles included grappling with his sexuality due to the abuse he endured. He emphasized the deep, long-lasting harm that childhood sexual abuse can inflict. He expressed his frustration that the show he was part of at the time wanted to avoid the bad press and therefore, didn't report the abuse to the police. The incident has had a lasting effect on Bridges, preventing him from confronting the perpetrator. However, despite his traumatic past, Bridges continued his career in show business and even starred in the record-breaking miniseries, "Roots," in 1978. He also criticized the tendency to remake classic films and series, suggesting that they rarely match up to their originals.

Todd Bridges opens up about his rich career before joining the cast of the '70s sitcom "Diff'rent Strokes." Bridges took part in over 200 commercials, appearing on popular shows such as "The Love Boat," "The Waltons," and "Little House on the Prairie." Bridges shares his experience working with Gary Coleman in "Diff'rent Strokes," revealing that it wasn't initially planned for Arnold to have a brother. In the wake of the cancellation of the series, "Fish," in which Bridges starred, the creators of "Diff'rent Strokes" decided to include a brother for Coleman's character. He describes being the setup man for the show as a tough job that required setting up jokes for others. Bridges also discusses the initial backlash against "Diff'rent Strokes" due to its depiction of a racially mixed family, recounting how they received hate mail from both Black and white communities. However, over time, both communities accepted and fell in love with the show.

Todd Bridges discussed the life of his late co-star, Gary Coleman. He explained that Coleman, known for his role as Arnold Jackson on "Diff'rent Strokes," was unaware that he was adopted until he was 21. He suffered medical complications from birth, including kidney defects, which affected his growth. Bridges and Vlad further discussed Coleman’s health issues, including numerous kidney transplants and regular dialysis treatments. It was also mentioned that due to his unique upbringing, Coleman’s vocabulary was more mature than his age suggested, thus influencing his signature delivery of catchphrases such as "What you talking about, Willis?" Bridges recounted their time on set together and even addressed some controversies regarding racial representation in Hollywood.

In this clip, Todd Bridges recounted the special moments on the set of "Diff'rent Strokes," highlighting the guest appearances of personalities like Muhammad Ali and Nancy Reagan. Bridges described Ali as "the greatest guy in the world" and shared an anecdote of the producers' failed attempt to make him say something negative about his hero. He also revealed that the show's original title was "45 Minutes from Harlem." The actor further talked about the security measures taken when then-first lady Nancy Reagan made a guest appearance, revealing that President Ronald Reagan was present off-stage, surrounded by Secret Service agents. The secret service’s heavy security even included a no-fly zone over Universal Studios at that time and showing off the surface-to-air missiles in their trunks.

Todd Bridges, famous for his role on "Diff'rent Strokes," recently shared during an interview that he played a key part in hiring Janet Jackson for the show. Bridges revealed that he was star-struck by Janet Jackson during her "Good Times" days and wanted to get to know her. He suggested hiring her when the producers of "Diff'rent Strokes" were looking for a girl to join the cast. Later on, they ended up dating for a few years. Bridges talked about the nerve-wracking experience of meeting the Jackson Brothers, sharing anecdotes like Michael Jackson rehearsing "Thriller" by singing in the pipes in his house before it was released. He refrained from sharing certain stories about his time with Janet due to his respect and ongoing friendship with her. Bridges also shared his experience with the sensitive special episodes of "Diff'rent Strokes," particularly the one revolving around child sexual abuse, which he preferred not to watch due to the relevance to his own past.

Todd Bridges discussed his and the late Gary Coleman's financial issues and personal lives. Bridges maintained that he did not have financial problems until legal trouble started, and his earnings were secure, unlike Coleman's. Coleman had sued his adoptive parents and business advisor for misappropriating his earnings, totaling $18 million. The suit resulted in a $1.28 million win for the "Diff’rent Strokes" actor. Bridges also discussed his struggles with law enforcement and drug use, stating that racial profiling led him to mental and emotional breakdowns. His experimentation with drugs didn't start until he was 21, contrary to the public perception.

In this clip, former child actor Todd Bridges reveals his experience with racism as a teenager and behind-the-scenes drama on the set of the sitcom "Diff'rent Strokes." Bridges shares that when he moved into a predominantly white San Fernando Valley neighborhood, he faced discrimination and even death threats, culminating in a cross-burning incident on his property. This harassment led him to leave the country for his safety. Bridges further divulges that as his notoriety grew, he found himself being manipulated and controlled by the showrunners. The pressure to stay on the show was intense, as a bid to become bigger than the show could have led to his departure, which was undesirable for the controllers of the show. He also blames Gary Coleman's parents for the show's ultimate cancellation. Bridges believes the show could have aired longer if it wasn't for the complications brought about by Coleman's parents, who demanded more money.

Todd Bridges shared his story of having $3 million stolen by his accountant, succumbing to drug addiction, and the continuing struggle of recovery. After his show was cancelled, Bridges decided to take a break from work. It was then he discovered his accountant had stolen nearly $3 million, and his father knew but did nothing. Only six months of lost money was recovered from the bank due to late detection, leaving Bridges significantly out of pocket. The following period was marked by difficulties such as sexual abuse allegations and police harassment. During a house renovation, Bridges encountered a bag of white powder, leading him into drug addiction. Despite being 30 years sober, he feels continually defined by his past substance abuse. Todd emphasizes that long-term sobriety is reliant upon internal change.

Todd Bridges opened up about his past struggles with drug addiction and his legal troubles. Bridges detailed his heavy experimentation with dangerous substances like cocaine, crack, and meth, all of which resulted in highs and lows and a false sense of confidence. Deeper into his past, he spoke about being charged in 1987 for attempted robbery, a case that was dismissed. Later, in 1989, he faced an attempted murder charge. Despite Bridges not being present during the incident, he was charged because he was in the vicinity when it occurred. Key prosecution witnesses would later state he was outdoors when the shooting happened. Bridges was also denied bond during this time, a move by his lawyer, Johnnie Cochran, that he believes prevented further unraveling. Bridges eventfully overcame both the legal troubles and his addiction, attaining sobriety by 1993.

Todd Bridges detailed his darkest moments and long fight with drug addiction. The "Diff'rent Strokes" actor revealed that he even considered suicide by cop during a heavy episode in his life. This low point led him to consider getting clean after a court-appointed ultimatum—jail or rehab. He chose rehab but not before one last drug binge. Bridges explained how he's managed to remain sober for 30 years stating, "I don't need it anymore," and has focused on better understanding his feelings and his identity. Playing the tape in his head of possible consequences has helped him resist using. He also credits his lasting sobriety to supportive relationships, his dedication to maintaining his mental health, and his faith in God. Despite hardships, including losing close friends to suicide or overdose, Bridges remains firm in his commitment to sobriety.

Todd Bridges discussed the challenges faced by his former co-star, Gary Coleman. Bridges compared his own post-TV career with Coleman's, attributing his success to branching out into dramatic roles such as criminals, lawyers, and doctors after getting sober. Multifaceted acting opened doors for him that Coleman had significant difficulty accessing due to his distinctive physical appearance. Homing in on an incident in 1998, he described a time when Coleman, then working as a security guard, had an altercation with a fan that led to court. He noted Coleman's difficulty in transitioning from a beloved TV actor to regular life roles, arguing that the public's expectations and media scrutiny worsened his difficult situation. He also shared his experience transitioning from drama to stand-up comedy, emphasizing that a background in drama makes it easier to switch genres compared to starting as a comedian.

In this clip, actor Todd Bridges discussed his time working with colleague Dana Plato on the popular 80s show 'Diff'rent Strokes,' and uncovered some harsh truths about the troubled actress's life. He shared that Plato was fired from the show for being an unwed, pregnant woman, a decision reflective of the moral standards of the time. While Plato attempted to continue working in B-movies and even adult films, Bridges revealed she struggled with substance abuse throughout her career. He also recounted Plato’s tragic accidental overdose following a fraught interview on the Howard Stern Show. Throughout the discussion, Bridges lamented the harrowing experiences of child actors, including himself, in Hollywood, highlighting the industry's role in exacerbating his and Plato's personal issues. He also touched upon his own experiences with recovery and drew attention to the racial disparities in Hollywood's handling of substance abuse.

I'm enjoying the hell out of Todd's interview on Vlad TV! I stayed up late and watched the first eight installments earlier this morning, and I just finished watching part nine a few minutes ago! It's unfortunate I'm not a paid subscriber to Vlad's YouTube channel; I'd be able to watch the interview in its entirety, uncut and unedited!

Thanks for sharing, TMC!
