I'm noticing Betty Lynn as Thelma Lou was appearing very early on, caught the episode where Barney was super shy with her, and she really wanted that kiss.

Andy was really trying to help Barney get up to speed and even Elly Walker got involved.

Helen Crump must have first appeared as "mean old Miss Crump," Opie's teacher. Before that, the school principal contacted Andy when Opie handcuffed another kid to the flag pole (an episode shown last night on MeTV.)
