Default Disney Joins Netflix In New Tone-Deaf Changes That Doom Streaming's Future

https://screenrant.com/disney-netfli...ng-future-bad/

Disney's new policies and price hikes for Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ join Netflix in tone-deaf changes that exacerbate worries for streaming's future.

I checked out of that ScreenRant article as soon as the author whined about crackdowns on password sharing. That is part of the reason why prices had to go up. People weren't just sharing PWs with family members but with neighbors and coworkers, too.

Another reason why streaming rates are going up is rampant piracy. The Internet Archive was hosting a ton of 4K, laserdisc copies of major movies and TV shows, including all seasons of Breaking Bad. Tons of this stuff wound up on torrents.

This generation, which keeps whining about prices, refuse to understand how the Real World works. You can't get something for nothing. Supporting and even teaching everyone how to pirate stuff and use hacks to get around advertising does nothing except raise rates for everyone.

I'm in agreement with the concern of pw sharing. However, what value do these streaming platforms really have?

I'm not here to knock anyone's taste in programming, but there's a slew of cable/satellite channels which appeal to a small niche of viewers~ HGTV, HLN, QVC, HSN etc. And yet, that's what I feel these streaming channels do.

I'm the first to admit to watching trash TV like Pawn Stars, Storage Wars and the like. But do they think viewers are going to get excited watching those type of shows which are now 13-14 years old?

Some of those platforms have exclusive content of popular IPs that can't be viewed anywhere, like all of those new Star Wars and Star Trek television shows.

A lot of the Star Wars, Star Trek, and Marvel fans have been less than fond of most of those "exclusive" shows... I think a lot of the shows based on popular IPs have been rejected by the fans, either from the get-go or eventually after going on for some time.

The people claiming to be fans and hating it are social media and YouTube trolls who make a living trashing these IPs because of Kathleen Kennedy and Disney. Most never had seen these franchises before learning that a person can make a lot of money trashing them for being woke or having Mary Sues.

Most fans of these IPs actually watch and and too busy enjoying them to waste time setting up a YouTube or social media account. Not only are The Mandalorian and WandaVision popular, Strange New Worlds is being broadcast on CBS this September.

Of course, not every show is beloved, but that was even the case before streaming. Voyager had its critics, as well as Enterprise, and of course, people were split over the Star Wars sequels.
