What is said about Danny being able to afford the house isn't hard to explain. It was never said what kind of work Pam did before her demise. For all that we know, Danny could've been a stay-at-home dad while she was still there, and her job could've been one that scored her a good enough paycheck. Once he was on his own, he had no other choice but to go to work somewhere.
