Does anybody know how long Chico and the Man managed to be rerun in syndication or if you remember seeing it on a local TV station? I read that it briefly aired on Channel 5, WNEW in New York.

I used to watch reruns in syndication in the '70s but I can't recall which station aired it. It was either WNDU-16 (NBC affiliate, South Bend), WSJV-28 (then - ABC affiliate, Elkhart), or WSBT-22 (CBS affiliate, South Bend). Definitely watched in daytime.

This forum was very active when TV Land acquired the show. Many people hadn't seen it since the original run or when it aired in syndication.
It aired in some markets such as Washington D.C. and New York City in the early 1980s. It aired in 1984 on WGN in Chicago according to this this thread. WWOR aired it on their national syndicated feed (not locally) in the early 1990s according to this this thread. Chico and the Man was in syndication during the early 80's If you search this forum for syndication, there are a few related threads. |

I know for a fact TV Land aired Chico And The Man regularly on its daily schedule (in the very early morning, if memory serves) in the early 2000s, but it was seldom seen in syndication for many years after its run had long since ended, presumably due to Freddie Prinze's untimely and unfortunate death--not to mention the fact that Chico failed to make it to the 100-episode mark, which is the "magic number" for many sitcoms and some hour-long dramas once they're eligible to air in off-network syndication.
NBC actually aired edited repeats of Chico in its daytime schedule between May and December of '77, shortly after Freddie's tragic death. |

I remember the NBC daytime reruns; I watched them faithfully during summer vacation that year. There was even a day when my elementary school lost power due to lightning hitting a transformer overnight; the principal sent someone to every classroom telling us to meet in the auditorium, where we were told that if the power didn’t come back on by a certain time, we would be sent home, and my first thought was “Cool, I’ll be able to watch Chico And The Man!”(Unfortunately, the power did come back on.)
