The Golden Girls is a iconic for its humor and its amazing leading ladies, but how old were Dorothy, Rose, Blanche, and Sophia really supposed to be?

It was always funny that Sophia was the oldest yet the actress who played Sophia was the youngest of the cast.
Its funny because back in the 80s, being 40 was considered really old. Mid 50s was considered old or "Golden years." Would it not be odd to call women in their 50s the "Golden Girls" today?
So many women today have botox and all sorts of fillers that make them look so much younger. In some ways, the show was the end of an era.
