Default Christopher Knight did not want to do the Brady Bunch variety show

Singing and dancing were a distant second to acting for Peter Brady.

Christopher Knight is the wealthiest of the Brady “kids”, and probably was tired of acting and show business by that point, and he was probably offered too much money to turn it down. Eve Plumb during that period was a very successful teen actress who could afford not to do the show.

Arguably it was a terrible program. One problem was, were they going to be their real selves or their characters? They played their characters but why would they end up doing a 1970’s variety show?

Supposedly he couldn't sing, but he was probably the best dancer.

Confused

I've always heard and read that Christopher Knight can't sing, but I swear that I was watching some show many years ago (possibly on VH1) that stated that him and Maureen McCormack did an album together in the 70s.

Maybe the show gave out some false information.

I met the Brady Brothers (Mike, Chris, Barry) back in 2010 where they talked about the variety show and the album w/ Knight and Maureen McCormick.

Lookinland said that back then he “was excited” about being a part of it, but now he thinks that “it’s not the greatest thing that we ever did.” He also explained that back in the day variety shows were “the thing to do” and that The Bradys, for some reason, were thought to be “the right ones to do it.

Knight said that he “hated doing it,” and Williams just called it “ridiculous” and said that “everyone tried, but it didn’t work.

Knight then explained that his duet album w/ McCormick “wasn’t his idea at all” and that at the time the show’s producers found out that Peter and Marcia were the most popular of 'The Bunch' and they looked to capitalize off of this with a music album.

He said what a producer told him back then, “Christopher, you are so famous right now that if you were to go out and spit on a record that somebody would buy that record” and he said that he couldn’t believe it.

He said that he dreaded the recoding sessions but that Maureen didn’t seem to mind it, “that she likes singing better than me.

None of them really wanted to do it. But many of them wanted to work with each other again. I just got done reading the book on the Brady Bunch Variety Show. Its a good read. Michael was not interested and told the producers he wanted double the money to do it as a reason they would not call him and ask again. But they called back and doubled the offer so he sort of felt obligated to do it. Its interesting the tatics the producers used to lure each kid to do it. Barry always wanted to be a singing star so they told him that he would be the star and the rest of the cast supporting, etc. They only ones that really wanted to do it were Robert Reed and Florence Henderson. The kids were shocked that Robert wanted to do it so they went along. Its funny because they lost Eve and they could not afford to lose another kid so they promised them the world. Ann Davis had such a negative experience about the show that she refused to talk about it in many interviews years later. That was one topic that was not allowed.
