Default Dawn Wells post Gilligan

Dawn Wells was so attractive and a pretty darn good actress. I wonder why she didn't do more TV or movie acting after Gilligan's Island ended its run? I read that she instead turned to acting in theater productions and was quite successful at that. I just would like to have seen her in more TV series or TV movies or theatrical movies!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I understand that Dawn was very shrewd about being sure to get paid royalties for GI reruns. Maybe her husband was a lawyer.

She certainly wasn’t ashamed of her TV role, vis-a-vis Ginger, later on. She appeared at least once in commercials about it. One in particular had her as a talk show guest:

“So, what will happen to you now?”
“I married a Professor.”

The question I always ask is, "What would she have been in?" The westerns and escapist dramas she had been in before Gilligan were in decline. She could be a mom in a family sitcom, but they stopped making those for about a decade.

She could have guested in the popular hospital and/or crime dramas that were very popular in the 1970s!

I saw Dawn Wells interviewed where she said her girlfriend's Dad was a lawyer and she had him review the G I Contract and he just thought it would be a good idea to have the Residual Rerun Fees extended ... although he was no expert on Acting Contracts ! Good things happen to Good People !

I think it's been pretty well established that all of the actors on the show - as well as other cult hits - were typecast as their TV characters and had tremendous difficulty getting other screen roles. That's why a lot of them turned to traveling small town theater, where their limited fame was an asset.

Photos are a must for any thread devoted to Dawn. For the card-carrying "Mary Ann Fan" like me:

Natalie Schafer supposedly left Dawn with at least $1 million at the time of her death as a thank you for taking care of her in her elder years.
