One of his friends offered him a ticket to Wrestlemania. Yet, the show acted like it was an everyday occurrence and not one of the biggest public gatherings of the year.
I don't even think he went. |

I'm not sure if the OP is being sarcastic. I recall getting WrestleMania II on pay-per-view, but it was a campy sort of thing. More comedy than anything else.

Yes, back then it wasn't really a huge thing. But today is a massive event that draws fans from all over the world.

I saw that episode the other day, incidentally, on IFC and you're right. Even back then, WrestleMania was a really big deal, as evidence by the reported 90,000+ spectators at the Pontiac Silverdome for WrestleMania III not too long before that particular Who's the Boss? episode. If you don't know what WrestleMania is, it's basically the professional wrestling equivalent to the Super Bowl.
And even then, I thought that it was super weird that it was already pitch black at night when Jonathan told Angela that he was going to WrestleMania. Since that episode was first aired in 1988, and if Who's the Boss? was at all, adhering to real life, then that year's WrestleMania would've been in Atlantic City, New Jersey at Boardwalk Hall. How exactly is Jonathan going to get to WrestleMania? According to Google Maps, it's an over 3 hour long drive from Fairview, Connecticut to Atlantic City, New Jersey. |
