Why would Jamie have an identical cousin named Amanda - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

In Season 5, there was an episode called "Fair Exchange", where through plot contrivances, Sarah goes to New Mexico in Jamie's place to visit their relatives. It just so happens though, that Sarah's cousin Amanda looks exactly like her sister Jamie (since Nicole Eggert was playing Amanda).

This was apparently, meant to be a backdoor pilot for a potential spin-off. But I don't understand why they had to make it so convoluted. I mean, if you're going to do a Charles in Charge spin-off with Nicole Eggert, then wouldn't it be much more simple to just focus on Jamie Powell instead of a girl who isn't Jamie but looks and acts exactly like her?

It just felt like a case of having your cake and eating it too. Plus, I'm not an expert in genetics or DNA, but shouldn't Amanda be Jamie's sister if they're going to look like each other more so than Sarah?
