"Monk" Film Ordered at Peacock
"Monk" Returns as Peacock Orders Reunion Movie Starring Tony Shalhoub & Original Series Cast
by Denise Petski, Nellie Andreeva March 15, 2023 A "Monk" follow-up movie will be coming to Peacock. The NBCUniversal streamer has ordered "Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie", starring Tony Shalhoub in a reprisal of his titular role from the USA series, along with original series cast members Ted Levine, Traylor Howard, Jason Gray-Stanford, Melora Hardin and Hector Elizondo. The project hails from the original series creative team including creator, executive producer and writer Andy Breckman, executive producer David Hoberman, and executive producer/director Randy Zisk. The studio behind the movie is UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group. In the follow-up movie, Monk, a brilliant San Francisco-based detective with obsessive-compulsive disorder, returns to solve one last, very personal case involving his beloved stepdaughter Molly, a journalist preparing for her wedding. “When creator Andy Breckman came to us with a new Monk case set in present day, we immediately fell in love with this story all over again,” said Michael Sluchan, EVP, Movies, Kids, Daytime, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “The movie has the heart and humor of the original series with a contemporary relevance, and we’re overjoyed to work with the original creative team, including Andy, David Hoberman, Randy Zisk, the unparalleled Tony Shalhoub, and our partners at UCP, for what is sure to be a must-see movie event for Peacock audiences.” https://deadline.com/2023/03/peacock...st-1235300773/ |

Tony Shalhoub Shares First Details on Upcoming "Monk" Film for Peacock
by Maureen Lee Lenker March 17, 2023 Tony Shalhoub opened up to EW about the new "Monk" film, saying that the film is scheduled to begin filming this May in Toronto. "It's Monk present day after however long we've been away from him, 13 years now, going on 14 years," Shalhoub says. "This is post-covid. Monk has been knocked back on his heels because of covid. He's older. He's not going to be chasing down things on the street and things like that. Hopefully (laughs). We're going to have to write to the fact that Monk's older." "It's a really interesting story," he adds. "I can't say too much about it, but it's got all of the good elements that the show was always striving for with a few new twists." "I'm really excited about revisiting it because when we ended it, it really felt like that was going to be it," he says. "But to have this opportunity to to see where we all are [is special]. All of the characters have gone through some changes in those years." https://ew.com/movies/monk-movie-ton...first-details/ |

Reviews of Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie
Mr. Monk's Last Case is the Monk movie fans wanted, but the Peacock effort leans too hard into updating the TV show to a post-COVID world. When Monk premiered in 2002, the series was unique in many ways -- and the Peacock movie Mr. Monk's Last Case is able to capture almost all of them. |
