Sports Moments that Always Make You Emotional - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

We all must have our personal favorite "heart-wrenching" and "emotionally-pulling" sporting moments. Moments that could range from making grown men weapy-eyed or simply be filled w/ sudden (albeit "unbiased") disgust:
*Baseball

*Football

*Basketball

*Hockey

*Olympics

*Pro Wrestling (yes, you heard me right)

*Others (e.g. Soccer, Golf, Tennis, Boxing, etc.)

For Football--Nothing beats The New England Patriots winning the Superbowl this year. Everyone was elated for weeks.

Hockey--The Boston Bruins--the famous shot of Bobby Orr flying across the ice to win the Stanley Cup back in the 70s. Wish we'd win another one.
Of course, the US Olympic Hockey team winning the Gold in 1980 was one of the most emotional moments in any sport's history, in my opinion.
More Olympics--Nancy Kerrigan holding her knee in pain was a tough thing to see. Damn that Tonya Harding.

Basketball--The emotional tribute paid to Larry Bird when he retired from the Boston Celtics in 1992.
There was great sadness when Reggie Lewis, a top Celtic player collapsed and died during a practice about 5 years ago.
Years earlier, tragedy hit when Len Bias, the top draft pick for the Celtics died of a drug overdose--such promise, a sad loss of a young life.

Baseball--Oh, those heartbreaking Red Sox. There was the Impossible Dream in 1967. Carlton Fisk waving the ball out of the park in the 70s--the footage was shown in the Boston-based movie, Good Will Hunting.
The horrific image of the ball going through Billy Buckner's legs during the final game of the World Series in 1986 against the Mets. We'll never recover from that.
At the All-Star game 3 years ago, there was the emotional scene with an ailing Ted Williams being driven on a cart around Fenway Park, tipping his cap to the crowd. We love ya Ted.

I always get sad seeing Lou Gherig make his farewell speech at Yankee Stadium, when he says he's the luckiest man alive.
Anything with Babe Ruth makes me choke up too, because BOSTON HAD HIM FIRST AND LET HIM GO. That damn Curse of the Bambino!

A National Holiday will be declared in Boston if the Red Sox ever win the world series.

Baseball- well with everything that has happened to Ted Williams in the past couple of years and that includes the all-star game in 99' when he went and drove around on a golf cart

Football- Superbowl of 02'!!!!!! and the Parade that was held in Boston

Soccer- when US Women won the world cup in the shoot-out

Baseball - The ball going through that guys legs in the 86' series. Forgot his name.

Football - '02 Superbowl. And in the game before that when Bledsoe was crying.

Basketball - Milt Palacios game winning 3 pointer from half court over the Nets. I love that shot.

Hockey - When Wayne Gretzky retired.

Boxing - When Mike Tyson bit of EH's ear.

That's all I can think of.

The ongoing battle over Ted William's remains makes me want to yell with rage, along with baseball setting a strike date. Can't these people just play for the love of the game!

Jack Buck's speech when play resumed after 911 sent chills, along with his calling of McGwire's record-breaking homer.

Another situation that sends chills is in 1992 when Sid Bream rounded third giving it all he got and scored to put the Braves in the World Series for the first time in so incredibly long. I remember that so well, even though I was only 5 at the time.

There are many baseball moments...I love baseball!

I loved that Bill Buckner missed that ball! To bad the mets weren't playin like they did in '86. Hopefully the red sox go to the WS. LETS GO RED SOX!!!!!!

last time sox's won a world series-1918

Ted Williams lived from 1918-2002...see a pattern?

Last time the sox had 2 20 win pitchers was in 1949 and they went to world series that year (alright so either pedro or derek have gotten to this point but if they do)

Last time the sox got off to a great road start they went to the world series...
