There's a discussion that's currently going on elsewhere that argues that 1997-2003 (the so-called "Y2K era") was the last okayish era for MTV. Come 2004-2008 (or the "McBling era"), they really overdosed on too much reality TV that had nothing to do with MTV's old spirit.
