Default How MASH Is Connected To The Original 1970 Movie

https://screenrant.com/how-mash-tv-s...vie-connected/

The MASH TV series is actually based on a 1970 movie, and the connection between the two MASH projects is actually incredibly interesting.

The article linked is a piece of junk! Let's take a look at the debacle:

"So, here is how a little-known movie from the early 70s became the beloved sitcom, MASH".

A little known movie! this is such a stupid statement I thought I was seeing things. MASH the film was the third highest grossing movie of 1970! It was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress, and won for Best Screenplay based on material from another medium! It won a Golden Globe for Best Picture Musical or Comedy! How could someone write an article on a topic and be so completely misinformed.

He contradicts himself, did an editor even look at this:

"Although the series didn't start until several years after the movie in 1972"
next paragraph
"Although the release date of the movie and TV show weren't far apart",

He never mentions the fact that the movie is based on a novel by Richard Hooker (who hated the TV series), I wondered if he was even aware of that fact.

Here's a statement about the TV series that makes no sense whatsoever:

"it also commentated on several controversial topics, such as the Cold War and the Vietnam War".

MASH takes place during the Korean War when did it reference the Vietnam War.

What does this mean:

"MASH had several spin-offs made during and after the original series run, helping it constantly evolve and stay fresh".

The only spin off occurred after the series ended. There was an additional pilot shot called Walter which was not picked up for a series. Trapper John which was a successful series on CBS is based on the Trapper John from the film version of MASH not the TV series, clearly that's not a spin-off.

I thought the article was going to discuss the connection between the movie version and series version but this in the only reference:

"The MASH TV series was born after failing to create a sequel to the movie, leading to the project being turned into a spin-off series".

That information comes right from Wikipedia but it requires a bit more research, if that had been done the writer might have realized there's a problem. The sequel to the original novel was not completed until 1972, the series was in development well prior to the completion of the book so I don't see the connection. The sequel, "MASH Goes To Maine" was about the further adventures of Hawkeye and Trapper after they return stateside, MASH the TV series would appear to be a completely independent project.

The author is obviously young and/or ill-informed. Those of us who lived at that time know better!
