Question Would Full House still had been a hit had John Posey played Danny

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-7WwU0DE7M

Bob Saget was always the top choice to play Danny Tanner, but at the time, he was under contract with CBS. He was a contributor to The Morning Program, which was their version of NBC's The Today Show and ABC's Good Morning, America.

Nonetheless, a full blown Full House series with John Posey as Danny Tanner does make a fun "what if" and alternate history discussion. John Posey admittedly, has sort of a Robin Williams vibe in his performance in the unaired pilot.

I don't have anything against the original actor, but in my opinion, Bob has the better delivery of lines. I can't see John having the chemistry that Bob had with Andrea who of course gave us the character of Kimmy. To me, her interaction with Bob was some of the best moments of the whole show, especially when cracks about him being so tall were made. Bob will always be the one and only Mr. T. to me.

God bless you and each remaining cast member and Bob's family always!!!

Holly

P.S. I still can't believe that Bob is gone. I love watching him tell Jesse that the family already had Barbie's dream house. The way that he said it and the look on his face when he said it is what made that moment perfect.

^^^ Thanks for the news. I guess that photograph was taken so that it could be placed somewhere in the living room setting of the house, like on the mantle maybe because I believe that is where Candace Cameron places the picture of herself when she is shown during the season four theme song arrangement. I wonder if a family picture was ever taken of the girls and Bob Saget along with the lady that we see as Pam during the season two episode when the family watches her bring Michelle home from the hospital.

God bless you and the girls always!!!

The common consensus that I've read in the YouTube comments section for this compare and contrast video is that John Posey as Danny Tanner seemed more like a goofy and quirky uncle, when that was presumably what Dave Coulier was there for. Like others have said, John admittedly has sort of a Robin Williams-vibe in his look and his energy.

The second argument that I've read is that Bob Saget was ultimately the better choice because he brought a better sense of calmness, sincerity, and more of a soothing presence than John. Maybe John seemed a bit too "upbeat" and high energy (for lack of better words) for being a man who just lost his wife. Bob meanwhile, seemed to be more like the geeky straight-man among the adults.

From what I've seen, I honestly don't think that John Posey was awful, and I wouldn't have had a problem seeing a version of Full House with him instead of Bob Saget as Danny Tanner. But I can none the less, understand why most people feel that Bob was the right choice for what the show was going for.

I suppose that John came across like he was too "in on the joke" if that makes sense. Bob I guess, more perfectly blended into the show's admittedly corny and saccharine presentation better.
