Why doesn't Season 6 (1996-97) use the theme song for the opening titles - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Instead, we have a very abbreviated one that begins with the Lambert-Foster family watching young Lilly blow out her birthday candles before going straight to the start of the episode.

Like I said, instead of the theme song that we had been hearing for the past five years, the credits are quickly displayed during the opening scene.

I know that this was right after Sasha Mitchell (Cody) was dismissed from the cast and they brought in Bronson Pinchot (Jean-Luc) as essentially, his replacement. But still, why wasn't there a traditional opening credits sequence for Season 6?

Even the final season on CBS, had a regular opening credits sequence, even if it wasn't as elaborate or entertaining as the one at the theme park/carnival.

I don't know, but eventually the same thing was done for the Family Matters show only I don't remember a new opening being done for the show during its final season.

Supposedly, sitcoms dropped theme songs - especially those with lyrics for two reasons:

1 - It saves production a lot of money to hire the songwriters and lyricists to write the song, and then to hire singers and musicians to perform. And it saves on future royalties, too.
2 - By jumping right into the action of the show (without the opening song and credits), it encourages people not to change the channel. If you're done watching one show, chances are you will stick with the network you're watching and not change. When they had 'opening themes' in the 'old days', it gave viewers a chance to get up and switch channels - or grab the remote and switch to another channel.

Could it be the case that they moved this show from ABC to CBS or no?
