A very good list except for the Doc Medich deal. Here's the issue, the Pirates definitely got the short end of the stick on that one, but they didn't dwell on it correcting the trade prior to the start of the 77 season sending Doc to the A's for another very talented second baseman named Phil Garner. Garner had some very fine seasons for the Pirates including the postseason of 1979 where he hit .417 in the playoffs, and .500 in the World Series (The We Are Family season for the Pirates).

I will suggest a couple replacements for that entry since they are part of that era of baseball.

In 1967 for some unknown reason the Cubs traded a 26 year old pitcher with a 51-43 lifetime mark up to that point named Ray Culp to Boston for Bill Schlesinger, cash and a player to be named later. Schlesinger's major league career was already in the rearview mirror and it consisted of one pinch hit appearance in 1965. The player to be named later had a more successful career in the big leagues he actually played in 5 games in 1972 and got a hit his name Al Montreuil. What did they give up, Culp for the next 3 seasons was 50-28, included in that is his All Star season of 1969, a very big year in Cubs history. Can you imagine what might have been if the Cubs had Culp as one of their 4 starters in that legendary season, the season they blew a 9.5 game lead in the NL East.

In 1972 the Red Sox traded away a pitcher who would become one of the greatest relief pitchers in Yankee history. Sparky Lyle was traded to the Bronx Bombers for a broken down first baseman named Danny Cater. Cater had no power and seldom walked while Lyle became the Yanks bullpen ace for the next 7 seasons culminating in Cy Young Award winning season of 1977, one of the few relief pitchers to win the award.
