Default Amy Robach & T.J. Holmes' alleged GMA affair is a throwback to 2000s tabloid drama

https://www.rollingstone.com/culture...ma-1234639684/

Quote:
ARRIAGES END. AFFAIRS begin. Sometimes there’s some overlap — and sometimes, if you’re famous, paparazzi are there to capture the entire mess.

Or, they were. Today it often feels like celebrity-stalking photographers lack the power they once held over their prey. A-listers now go to greater lengths to protect their privacy, tabloids have less cultural influence thanks to social media, and we’ve all had to reckon with the pain that that sort of media coverage inflicted on stars over the years, like Britney Spears.

Yet a blossoming scandal at the daytime news show Good Morning America, documented in a trove of sneaky pictures, is transporting the nation back to the mid-2000s. Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes, anchors on the daytime segment GMA3: What You Need to Know, have apparently been enjoying a months-long affair (a well-timed report now claims they both separated from their spouses in August). The Daily Mail ran photos of the workplace couple canoodling in a bar, holding hands in an Uber, arriving at a secluded cottage for a vacation weekend, and entering and leaving one another’s apartment buildings.

ABC News benches T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach from GMA3 because media coverage of their romance “has become an internal and an external distraction"

Quote:
Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes were absent from Monday's "Good Morning America" broadcast after the co-anchors were recently accused of cheating on their spouses with each other.

ABC News correspondents Gio Benitez and Stephanie Ramos filled in for Robach and Holmes during the latest edition of "GMA 3: What You Need to Know" opposite regular co-host Jennifer Ashton. The episode aired just days after Page Six reported that Robach, 49, and Holmes, 45 — both married, to other people — had been engaged in “an alleged months-long affair,” and the Daily Mail published photos of the co-workers getting intimate with each other in New York City.

"Good afternoon and welcome everybody to 'What You Need to Know' on this Monday," Ramos said at the top of the show. "Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes have the day off."

ABC News President Kim Godwin informed her staff Monday on an editorial call that Robach and Holmes would be temporarily taken off the air as the network determines how to handle the in-house scandal rocking the broadcast journalism world.

"I want to say that while that relationship is not a violation of company policy, I have really taken the last few days to think about and work through what I think is best for the ABC News organization," Godwin said on the call.

"These decisions are not easy, they’re not knee-jerk, but they are necessary for the brand and for our priority ... the people here at ABC. ... I’m asking that we stop the whispering in the hallways. You know, we can’t operate with gossip and speculation and rumors. We need to stay focused on the work."

Some outlets have reported that Holmes and Robach separated from their respective spouses — attorney Marilee Fiebig and actor Andrew Shue — nearly a year after the alleged affair commenced. Others reports have stated that the co-anchors had already separated from their spouses before they began seeing each other.

Holmes and Robach have deactivated their Instagram accounts and remained silent since the initial headlines and photos surfaced. The newscasters have not responded to The Times' requests for comment.

Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes are reportedly out at GMA3

Quote:
ABC could be staring down the barrel of a lawsuit if it fires or pushes T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach out of their anchor jobs ... because we're told the 2 have lawyered up big time and if it comes to litigation ... race might be an issue.

Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ ... ABC has not clued in T.J. or Amy as to why they were taken off the air a month ago ... after their romantic relationship surfaced. We're told they're confused and frustrated why the ABC News brass at first told people internally there would be no disciplinary action, and then the company did an about-face.

Our sources say Amy has hired Andrew Brettler, one of the best civil lawyers in Hollywood, and T.J. has lawyered up with Eric George, a legal force who has handled numerous celebrity cases.

We're told Brettler and George want answers, which they are not getting so far. Our sources say if ABC keeps T.J. and Amy off the air or fires them, the lawyers are ready to file suit, and one of the issues involves race.

We're told the lawyers will pose this question to ABC ... "Has ABC ever used the morals or conduct clause to fire or discipline 2 consenting adults at equal levels when both were white?" The sources go on to say it would be telling if this is the first time ABC invoked the morals clause under these circumstances ... with a Black and a White anchor.

The sources go on to say the damages could be enormous if their reputations and careers are ruined as a result of discipline by the network.

One source says the only thing T.J. and Amy can think of regarding what ABC thinks they did wrong was not informing them of the relationship in a timely fashion. To that, the sources say ... "Are you supposed to inform your boss when you catch feelings?"

We reached out to ABC ... so far, no word back.

‘GMA3’: Gio Benitez And DeMarco Morgan Being Considered As Permanent Replacements For T.J. Holmes, Amy Robach

Quote:
Good Morning America 3 fill-ins Gio Benitez and DeMarco Morgan’s hosting duties might become permanent if all goes well in the coming weeks.

According to Entertainment Tonight, the two are contenders for a permanent position on the show after filling in for disgraced co-anchors T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach.

The post ‘GMA3’: Gio Benitez And DeMarco Morgan Being Considered As Permanent Replacements For T.J. Holmes, Amy Robach appeared first on Blavity.

“Gio has been with ABC for almost 10 years, is familiar with the brand, and is a familiar face on the regular morning show,” a source told ET. “Fans not only know him, but feel a comfortability with him on-air, effectively making his choosing an easy choice should they go in that direction.”

The insider added, “DeMarco dropped everything at the onset once the news broke about Amy and T.J. to head to New York City and take on anchoring duties, and that does not go unnoticed. He’s been doing a great job and seems to be universally well-liked. So, it would seem he’s a serious contender for anchor.”

Benitez and Morgan are reportedly undergoing chemistry tests and, if all goes well, could become the new faces of GMA3.

The source said ABC is not in a rush to fill the hosting positions once held by Holmes and Robach. However, no one would be surprised “if new talent is named in the upcoming months.”

As for Holmes and Robach, both are in the market for new jobs following the news of their secret extramarital affair coming to light.

Though it’s unclear if the two are looking for new co-hosting gigs, an insider told ET that Holmes and Robach intend to return to work soon.

“Amy and T.J.’s chemistry both on and off screen is undeniable. It’s been that way for years, so it’s no surprise that the two would want to continue their careers together onscreen in some capacity,” the source said. “And while there’s always hope for a joint venture of sorts — like being on a show together — the two could work separate of each other, or at different networks entirely. Needless to say, they are intent on working again.”

Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes Break Silence on GMA Firing: "We Lost the Jobs We Love Because We Love Each Other"
by Ryan Schwartz
Dec. 5, 2023

One year to the day that Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes were benched by ABC News, the former "Good Morning America" hosts are spilling the tea (so to speak) about the relationship that cost them their jobs.

The first episode of their self-titled podcast addresses their infamous ousting head on. “Other people have… told our narrative,” Robach says. “And I shouldn’t say ‘our.’ They told a narrative; it wasn’t our narrative, and this is the first time that we actually get to say what happened, and where we are today.

It was November of last year when the Daily Mail published photos of Robach and Holmes spending time together in Upstate New York. Robach at the time was married to Andrew Shue, while Holmes was married to attorney Marilee Fiebig.

But the ex-GMA3 duo stress that they were never having an affair.

We were outed,” Holmes declares. “To be clear, we were outed as being in a relationship, but everyone else thought we were being outed as adulterers, being outed as cheating on our spouses, and it wasn’t the case.”

The day those pictures were taken, the day that article was released that outed us, we both at that point were in divorce proceedings,” he explains, before Robach specifies that Shue had moved out of their shared home “three months earlier,” and Holmes says that he’d been living separately from Fiebig since “last summer.

Their plan was to finalize their divorces before going public with their relationship.

We thought, ‘In January, we’re going to go and walk in and explain to [ABC] management that we are a couple,'” Robach says. “We’d even talked about doing it earlier. Right before the pictures came out, we thought, ‘Should we tell them what’s going on?'

But they ultimately decided to wait until their divorces were cleaned up, and never considered the possibility that they’d wind up in the tabloids.

We had every intention of [going public],” she says, “and we didn’t believe… that we were doing anything technically wrong.

Adds Holmes: “What we [did was] we failed at being good crisis managers. We failed at understanding some level of celebrity that neither one of us thought we had. In that world, affiliated with the show we were affiliated [with], that’s just a sexy freaking story, and I just don’t think we thought about it in that way — that anybody would give a damn what we were doing.

As for how they feel about their termination? Well….

I guess the best way to sum us up, Amy and T.J., is that we are the folks who lost the jobs we love because we love each other,” Holmes says. “And that is the bottom line.

T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach are Engaged 3 years after their Scandalous GMA3 Romance
by Raechal Shewfelt
October 14, 2025

Three years after T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach's workplace romance at GMA3 exploded into public view and led to both of their exits from ABC News, the former co-anchors are engaged to be married.

The two announced their happy news Tuesday on an episode of their Amy & T.J. podcast titled "Robach-Holmes" and bearing a one-sentence description: "We are no longer girlfriend-boyfriend."

"Okay, we are sharing with all of you that we are engaged," Robach, 52, said on the podcast. "And we've been engaged for just about a month now."

Holmes, 48, said they were "surprised" they were only talking about it now, alluding to all the public scrutiny they've faced in the past.

"We wanted to let you all know before anybody else was able to," he explained. "We've learned that lesson, I guess, in the past about our relationship, that we want to be the first to talk about it. But we figured, 'Whoa, this is a little late,' because we have been in front of crowds of tens of thousands, with you dangling a ring in everybody's face every chance you could, and nobody said a word."
