Question What are some things/storylines that you hated about your favorite soap operas?

What are some things/storylines that you hated about your favorite soap operas? Did it even make you stop watching?

The first time Days had the "Marlena Possessed" storyline in the 1990's is what made me stop watching. I wasn't really watching regularly after 1992 because I didn't like how they had John try to move on to Marlena so soon after Isabella died.

I stopped watching General Hospital in early 1995 because they decided to make it more "mob" focused with Sonny, then the heavy focus on Brenda (who I couldn't/can't stand), Jason, et al. and two of my absolute favorites leaving Port Charles. That was enough to make me stop watching.

I hated the “Nikki finished J.T. off with a fire poker” story Y&R offered a few years ago. It was so out of character for J.T. to be putting his hands on Victoria (given how dull and “gentle-like” he was before). I’d also hate to see Heather Tom playing an abused Victoria if she had stayed in the role.

Another Y&R story I didn’t care for was Billy/Phyllis. It’s bad enough that Phyllis has already intimidated Nick with her “womanly features” in the past, but I thought it was a BIT of a stretch for Phyllis to be sleeping with her brother-in-law, that is TOO slutty, even for a giant slut like Phyllis. Plus, it’s odd and scary to try to picture Billy Miller and Michelle Stafford doing a love scene together instead of Jason Thompson and Gina Tognoni. I’m beyond glad that Billy and Phyllis aren’t a thing anymore.

Speaking of Phyllis, I didn’t/don’t like her with Nick either. I don’t know why, but I just cringe whenever I’m reminded that Nick was once Daniel’s stepfather. It’s just so…wrong, in ways I can’t explain.

I wasn’t a fan of the “Who Caused Diane Jenkins To Be Found Dead In A Lake Wearing Some Gaudy Dress?” story either. I’m so glad that Diane is back with Susan Walters playing her, but I kinda wish it was Maura West and not her because I’m finding it harder and harder to buy that Diane slept with Nick and Tucker McCall (especially now that Susan Walters has reprised the role). At least Susan is doing a great job.

As for B&B, I am burned out by the Ridge/Taylor/Brooke storyline. Seriously, they should have left Taylor alone if they were going to do this. One week, Ridge wants Taylor so and then the next, he’s back to bedding Brooke. Make up your DAMN mind, Ridge. And then the sad part is, they write Ridge as if we’re supposed to feel bad for or sympathize with him when he’s had the chance to leave Brooke the Bimbo MANY times.

So many things that happened on One Life to Live that I hated:

Todd Manning becoming the center of the show.

Vicki having a millions personalities.

Destroying Vicki and Clint's Marriage.

Saddling Max down with twin babies.

Sheila dumping Troy for Hank.

Killing off Gabrielle, Al, Meagan, Sarah, Didi, and Jenny.

Getting rid of great characters, like: Carla, Ed, Sadie, Brenda, Max, Gabrielle, Troy, Sheila, Rika, Kerry, Larry etc.

Not reuniting Max and Gabrielle and allowing them to have a happy ending.

OLTL’s Eterna! Bleck!

The weird practice soaps have of diminishing core families and bringing in characters no one cares about.

All of the soaps eschewing their history and brining in generic and dumb teen actors that absolutely no one cares about.
