'Gene Roddenberry Would Be Turning In His Grave'

During the first night of SDCC's Shatner on Shatner panel, the titular actor William Shatner had a few choice words about Star Trek and space.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shatner spent plenty of the panel speaking about his career, especially Star Trek. When asked about newer generations of the show, he revealed that he believes no new shows in the franchise can rival his own. "I got to know [creator] Gene Roddenberry in three years fairly well,” Shatner said. “He’d be turning in his grave at some of this stuff."

I am a big Star Trek fan and do agree that the new shows suck. Strange New Worlds is OK, but just OK and this is the best of the lot. Discovery is unwatchable. I tried and managed two seasons and then gave up on it. The animated show lasted one episode with me, not even that.

The new shows try to be politically correct or something. Hard to put my finger on it, but the new shows are not good, and not only that, very convuluted, I cant keep up with the storyline and I just quit caring after that.

I was watching an old interview with Gene Roddenberry and he mentioned when his son Rod was born, his wife Majel exclaimed, "Thank God he's well-hung!" LMAO

Actually, It Doesn’t Matter If Roddenberry Would Like Modern Star Trek

Though the debate about Gene Roddenberry's original vision for Star Trek continues, it's missing the point: it really doesn't matter to the franchise.
