Have you ever noticed that every soap opera has featured a male character who raped a female character - but then be reformed as a regular member of society? And even a fan favorite of the female viewers! Some shows even have had two or three rapists who were later redeemed as a hero!

As the World Turns also featured the storyline with Rod Landry aka Josh Snyder (William Fichtner), who had raped Iva Snyder (Lisa Brown) when they were both teenagers, resulting in the birth of their daughter Lily (Martha Byrne), who had been adopted by the rich & powerful Lucinda Walsh. The storyline sought to redeem the character of Rod, who took a paternal interest in his daughter, with whom he would reconcile. In an extra creepy turn, Rod/Josh would then go on to marry Iva's sister, Meg!

Also from As the World Turns Dr. John Dixon (Larry Brygmann) was accused of marital rape for a second time by his estranged wife Dee Stewart, who claimed she had been drugged and raped by John. She later dropped the charges after revealing in court she had willingly made love to John because she believed he was her current boyfriend Brad while in her confused state.

Then (General Hospital - Rapist Luke Spencer - Victim Laura Baldwin) got married which was probably the highest rating the sopa opera ever had, so much so that the actors graced magazine covers all over America at the time.

The worst is DOOL's sick attempt at "redeeming" a serial killer (Ben.) He brutally killed 3 women and attempted to kill 1 man all in his twisted attempt to frame his love rival (Chad) for murder. He also chained Chad & Abby to a bed and set it on fire. He's sick and evil and no serial killer can be redeemed.

All My Children also had a character named David Hayward, who drifted back and forth between being a villain and being an antihero even though he was pretty much known for drugging and blackmailing women so he could rape them. Even when he was being portrayed as a villain, they usually tried to make the audience sympathize with him.
