Jim’s pranks on Dwight in The Office may appear to be mindless, schoolyard antics, but they could serve a larger purpose in saving Dwight his job. |

Dwight was a strange but harmless individual. I knew several people similar to him. The best way to deal with Dwight was to leave him alone, be friendly with the dude, but I am there to work and make money. Jim was childish and somewhat a “bully” to Dwight, although Dwight sometimes deserves it (like when Dwight had that beach ball chair thing which Jim stabbed with scissors.
It’s fiction but to me the best way to get along with co-workers is to be friendly and/or leave them alone to do their thing. What’s a little unrealistic of workplace comedies is that the people at work are your friends and you hang out with them after work. This doesn’t happen. BUT to Jim’s credit, he invited Dwight to at least one mixer at his house (so Jim’s frat buddies could see that Dwight was real) and not Michael. Or the disaster plus dinner party where Pam is happy seeing Dwight there. |
