Question Why has Dennis Haskins kept a low profile for so long

Up until late 2019, he was pretty much all over the place on social media or milking his Mr. Belding fame for all it's worth where ever he could. And then this new iteration of Saved by the Bell is announced you don’t hear a word from him. Or when Dustin Diamond died even though he also spent five years paired with him on The New Class. Not even when fans were asking “where’s Mr. Belding?” One naturally has to wonder if he's okay health-wise.

So it could be that he has in light of Covid-19 in particular, laying low to preserve his health.

I have also, previously touched upon some unsavory rumors or allegations that may or may not be about Dennis Haskins online. So it could also be, he has been laying low out of fear of being "exposed" if said allegations had any traction or weight to them.

I could definitely see that. A few years ago, I discovered a website (I believe it was washedupcelebrities.com), brought to light creepy photos of Belding (who must have been about 60 at the time) with very young women, some not even old to drink. It was strongly implied that he had issues with alcohol, and tended to act inappropriate towards young female fans and actresses. This could explain some of the snubs from the SBTB reunions he received.

It should also be noted that pro wrestler Chris Jericho wrote a book a decade ago, and had some interesting encounters with Haskins. Appearantly, when Wrestlemania was in Anaheim in 2000, Haskins would be harassing the wrestlers to the point, they made excuses to get away from him. Haskins as well as Steve Urkel, of all people, were appearantly huge wrestling fans and may ahve used their celebrity status to get to the backstage area to chat with the talent.

A couple of years before that (2012 I believe), appearantly Tiffani Theisson was on some late night talk show, and the host surprised her, and brang Haskins onto the set, where he gave her a brief hug. Theisson was clearly not amused, and her facial expression indicated she wanted nothing to do with him.

It was actually on The Today Show on NBC:

I'm certain that at the time, people immediately interpreted it as Tiffani somehow being embarrassed and ashamed of her past.

Here's a more recent Reddit post that's inquiring about Dennis Haskins' recent whereabouts.

Here's an exact link to the site that you mentioned:
http://washedupcelebrities.blogspot....s-haskins.html

One of the women in these photos looks like Nicole Eggert.

lol...that forced smile, and her looking away was so forced. You can tell she was not amused.

I hope and pray Dennis "Mr. Belding" Haskins is fine, dandy, and peachy keen as well...as TMC stated in his opening spiel for his thread, Haskins was a ubiquitous presence on virtually every social media platform known to mankind prior to the advent of the global COVID-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020.

What's mindboggling is that Haskins has never publicly commented on or expressed his condolences for his longtime SBTB castmate Dustin "Screech" Diamond in the two-plus years since Dustin's untimely and unfortunate death from stage four small-cell carcinoma, unlike his fellow co-stars (Mark-Paul Gossalaar, Mario Lopez, Elizabeth Berkley, Lark Voorhies, and Tiffani Thiessen) who all flooded Twitter and Instagram and expressed their respective feelings of shock, surprise, and heartbreak upon learning of Dustin's unexpected death.

It's a low down dirty crying shame Haskins has been unable to avoid being typecast and being instantly recognized as Bayside's bumbling principal (not unlike Dustin, who likewise struggled both professionally and financially after the cancellation of SBTB: The New Class by accepting any and every s**t job that was offered to him, from VH1's Celebrity Fit Club to Fox's infamous Celebrity Boxing as well as dabbling in stand-up comedy); he was largely relegated to in-person autograph signings and meet-and-greets at conventions and sporting events such as professional wrestling. It's painfully obvious Haskins continued to milk and embrace his most famous role for more than it was actually worth long after the bell rang and class was officially dismissed on SBTB: The New Class.

I'm also surprised Haskins never complained about not being offered the opportunity to participate or even make a special guest appearance as the now-retired Belding in Peacock's recent SBTB reboot, unlike Dustin (who publicly expressed dismay and disappointment about Screech being conspicuously absent from the reboot).

In any case, wherever he is or whatever he's been doing for the last three years since his sabbatical from the public eye, I wish Haskins nothing but the best.

Is Dennis Haskins originally from El Paso Texas? Because I noticed that El Paso has a civic center called Dennis Haskins Center so I wonder when that civic center was built the city chose to name it after Dennis Haskins? I also know that Dennis also was the spokesman for a supermarket chain based in El Paso called Big 8 Foods in the 80's and he was somewhat of a legend in El Paso Texas

To the best of my knowledge, Dennis "Mr. Belding" Haskins was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, which is a really long way from El Paso. And I seriously doubt he has a civic center named after him...that's almost like having the late Dustin "Screech" Diamond's image chiseled on the side of Mount Rushmore and declaring his birthday a federal holiday. (What a horrifying thought.)

As for Haskins being a spokesperson for that regional supermarket chain in the Lone Star state during the eighties, I'm absolutely certain he wasn't, because Haskins had already begun his acting career in Tinseltown as a character actor on episodic television (after graduating from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and relocating to the West Coast), making guest appearances on The Dukes Of Hazzard (three episodes!), CHiPs, Simon & Simon, Archie Bunker's Place, The Greatest American Hero, The Fall Guy, Knots Landing, Hardcastle And McCormick, and Magnum, P.I. as well as appearing as a contestant on the hit game shows Press Your Luck and Scrabble; Haskins even moonlighted as a concert promoter and music manager (Tom Jones and the late Gregg Allman were among his many clients) on the side while auditing for his various TV bit roles.

Thanks for commenting, Hawkee. Enjoy your fantastic Friday, as well as your weekend, bro.

I asked my mom about Dennis Haskins yesterday and what she told me was that there was a guy named Don Haskins who was from El Paso Texas and that El Paso actually named the civic center Don Haskins Center not Dennis Haskins Center and for a short time Don Haskins actually was a spokesman in Big 8 Foods commercials in El Paso Texas and he was a legendary coach of El Paso's college there. Is there any chance that Dennis Haskins is related to Don Haskins? And Dennis Haskins was a contestant on Press Your Luck in the 80's? I never seen that episode before on Amazon Prime
Thanks for the info EccentricGenius,
Hawkee

You're very welcome, Hawkee! I've always wanted to watch Dennis "Mr. Belding" Haskins' appearances as a non-celebrity contestant on both Press Your Luck and Scrabble myself! It appears I'll have to do some searching and scouring on YouTube in the near future to see if they've already been uploaded and available for viewing!

As for Dennis Haskins being related to legendary NCAA coach Don Haskins (1930-2008), I still believe in my heart of hearts that's highly unlikely. Though they both share the same exact surname, I seriously doubt the two are actually related. As I'd already mentioned previously in my initial comment, Dennis Haskins was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

And Don Haskins does indeed have a civic center and auditorium named in his honor in El Paso.

Enjoy the remainder of your day, as well as your weekend, bro!
