I have not been following yet another Hollywood damaged story but just heard Ben Shapiro on my radio do a blow by blow story on it and for one she is 22 yrs younger than Depp, and she also had a time with Musk....ho hum....anyway, I didn't realize Depp was such a druggie/drunk but only knew him as a pretty good actor. Oh the screwed up hollywood relationships, definitely more damaged ones than good ones. And to think I've lived in this state of hollywood for 57 yrs and am so grounded, it's gotta be my meager eastern birth and up bringing.
Did the marriage thing in the East and did the divorce in Hollywood world....never to marry again. I knew better. |

Drew Barrymore apologizes for joking about the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard trial
On her daytime talk show last week, Barrymore said of the high-profile defamation trial: “It’s like one layer of crazy, it’s a seven-layer dip of insanity. I know that these are two people’s real lives and I know what it’s like to have your life put out in public. I understand all the feelings, but they are actually offering up this information that nobody had to know. This is crazy!” On Sunday, Barrymore posted a video apologizing for "making light" of the trial. “It has come to my attention that I have offended people with making light of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard and for that I just want to deeply apologize and appreciate everyone who spoke out because this can be a teachable moment for me and how I move forward and how I conduct myself," she said. |

Johnny Depp–Amber Heard defamation trial has been a boon to the relaunched Court TV
Court TV was relaunched as a digital broadcast network in 2019 after the original version -- which became a fixture of 1990s trials -- was rebranded as TruTV in 2008. Court TV received praise last year for its in-depth coverage of the Derek Chauvin trial. But Court TV's wall-to-wall coverage of the Depp-Heard trial has helped drive the pop-culture conversation over the past few weeks. "The trial, which has provided a rare, unblinking look into the dissolution of a mega-celebrity marriage, has included allegations of abuse from each partner," says Vanity Fair's Kenzie Bryant. "It has been sometimes-disturbing, occasionally-bizarre, always-tragic television. As such, it has enthralled viewers and, much like the network’s greatest hits in its halcyon days of the 1990s when it provided daily coverage of the Menendez brothers and O.J. Simpson, created a cultural conversation around it. Howard Stern and Joe Rogan have both weighed in. (Anti-Depp and pro-Depp, respectively.) It has all led to Court TV’s peak viewership since its relaunch in 2019, the network said." Court TV's coverage has also been a boon to Depp, even if his chance of winning are a long shot. "If you’ve been watching, it’s difficult to shake the feeling that Depp’s presentation of his case to as broad an audience as possible will be some kind of victory for the actor," says Bryant. "Court TV broadcast every moment of his four days of testimony on the stand—including direct examination (his lawyers ask him questions), cross-examination (her lawyers ask him questions), and redirect examination (his lawyers ask him more questions, attempting to mitigate any potential damage done in cross-examination). There Depp sat, looking like a shaved Jack Sparrow and speaking from the bottom of his voice, tinged with a vague brogue that would be so strange on any other Kentucky-born, California-based man. He’s attempting, as ever, to wield the star power that’s served him well over his 30-plus-year career. And the camera loves him. (Heard has yet to take the stand, but is expected to very soon.)" |

SNL made itself part of the problem in a major way by mocking the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard trial
As Alison Stine points out of last week's cold open, Cecily Strong "appears less and less committed to the sketch as it goes on, perhaps realizing the scene is bombing with the studio audience (and the viewers at home) or perhaps never enthusiastic about the lackluster sketch to begin with. It is telling that it's the women cast members who are forced to perform the primary roles in the sketch — yet Heard is not represented — along with actors of color: in the show, Depp and Heard's entire domestic staff are Latinx or Black. Reactions to the sketch have been overwhelmingly negative, with many viewers responding harshly to the show making light of very serious allegations of abuse. By focusing on the juvenile fecal matter story, SNL makes the case more of a joke. 'This trial is fun,' Strong's character says. But it isn't fun. Coming at a time when the rights of vulnerable people are more and more under attack, when Chris Rock – who endured violence witnessed by millions – can make a quip like, 'Believe all women except Amber Heard,' SNL has never been less funny or less relevant." |
