Peregrym, who previously took time off the CBS drama in Season 2 when she welcomed her first child, announced that she was pregnant on social media in February. She also approached showrunner Rick Eid with the news. “Basically, I told her, ‘Tell us what you want what you need, and we’ll do our best to accommodate it.’ She was feeling great and wanting to work for as long as she could,” Eid tells Variety. “We had a general idea when she was going to leave, and so there was just a question of finding the right episode to pair with that and the right plot to pair with that. I think the sarin gas idea seemed to be a exciting, thrilling way to send her off.”

Missy Peregrym Announces Delayed Season 5 Return to "FBI"

"FBI" star Missy Peregrym — who gave birth to her second child last month — will be back at work on the CBS procedural this fall, albeit a few weeks late.

The actress revealed on Instagram Friday that her current maternity leave will continue until September, at which point she will resume playing Special Agent Maggie Bell. According to sources, that should put Peregrym back on air sometime around mid-fall.

“FBI is starting up again in a couple weeks, but I will be returning to work in September,” the actress shared.

“I’m relieved and grateful that I am afforded the space to bond with my family, to rest and heal and be a mother (which is harder than work!). I understand this is a luxury, and I wish every mother/parent/caretaker had this too. Thank you for all the love, prayers and support from this community.”

In the meantime, Shantel VanSanten will continue as Nina up until at least Peregrym returns.

"FBI" is set to kick off Season 5 on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 8/7c.

CBS announced today that Missy Peregym will return as Maggie Bell for the Nov. 15 episode of "FBI". To explain her absence, Maggie was sent on medical leave after she suffered an injury.

In the Nov. 15 episode titled “Ready or Not,” Maggie returns in time to help the team investigate the homicides of a law student on track to attend Quantico and a young man with possible gang ties.
