The disgraced comedian won Best Comedy Album for his self-produced comedy show Sincerely during the pre-show ceremony. The award marked his first since his 2017 sexual misconduct scandal. Comedian Jen Kirkman, who talks about the time C.K. tried to assault her in her latest album, shared a clip from the album and mocked him for “acting like a victim” when he talks about his history. Others pointed out that his win is proof cancel culture is a myth. Louis CK's ability to put out an album and for it to win a Grammy is further proof "cancel culture" is a myth "While people certainly do get 'canceled,' the term has been weaponized against the #MeToo movement to make it look like some kind of crusade against innocent men," says Chloe Stillwell. "Others have pointed out in the backlash to last night’s win for C.K. that a good deal of the comics who spoke out in horror at Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at last week’s Academy Awards have been mostly silent on the situation with Louis C.K. — suggesting not just racism, but also that people don’t believe women in these matters, even when C.K. has admitted to what happened. Ultimately, it’s about accountability, and the Recording Academy last night proved that it has no interest in being part of any machine that holds men who abuse their power to hurt people accountable." ALSO: How Louis CK won a Grammy: The disgraced comedian caught a break when Bo Burnham's Inside (The Songs) was ruled ineligible for the category. Louis CK's Grammy win sends the message that "nobody cares," says one of his sexual harassment victims “Nobody cares. That’s the message this sends. It really does. That’s the truth," says Julia Wolov, in an interview with the Variety. Wolov adds that CK's Grammy is a sign of the #MeToo movement's ineffectiveness. |
