March 23: Happy Birthday Marin Hinkle

Marin Hinkle turns 56 today. Hinkle was born in Tanzania, to two American parents who met while serving in the Peace Corps. She studied at Brown and then at NYU, where she earned an MFA.

After working in theater, film and television for nearly 30 years, Hinkle has been gaining some recognition lately. She has been a two-time Emmy nominee for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, as Rose Weissman on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Hinkle made her professional debut in 1992, in an Off-Broadway production of Romulus Linney’s A Woman Without a Name. She has a long list of Off-Broadway credits, and has appeared on Broadway in productions of Shakespeare’s The Tempest, Herb Gardner’s A Thousand Clowns, and Sophocles’s Electra.

In 1999, Hinkle was cast in her first regular television role, as Judy Brooks on ABC’s Once and Again. She then was a regular on the first 8 seasons of Two and a Half Men. She was a regular on the short-lived NBC prime-time soap Deception, and a recurring character on ABC’s Speechless.

Hinkle has had sizable roles in feature films such as The Next Big Thing, The Year That Trembled, Turn the River, The Haunting of Molly Hartley, and Geography Club. More recently, she has appeared in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Jumanji: The Next Level as Spencer Gilpin’s mother.
