what would your plot/meta-humor be?
I'd really like to see a reunion skit poking fun at the Brady Bunch reunions replacements... MJF and JB aren't in the skit, but Alex and Mallory still appear. Only... they are played by Chris Hebert and Kaleena Kiff, which is technically not a recast. |

That reminds me of when Justine Bateman guest-hosted Saturday Night Live in 1988, there was this really funny sketch that poked fun at Family Ties. You had Jan Hooks as Elyse, Kevin Nealon as Steven, Dana Carvey as Alex, Justine as of course, Mallory, Victoria Jackson as Jennifer, and Jon Lovitz as Nick.
The sketch particularly poked fun as Family Ties' propensity of doing clip show episodes, right down to a flash back to an episode of The Jeffersons. You could say that it really nailed the formulaic vapidity of Family Ties. It even skewered, things that might not have been consciously aware of such as the way that Meredith Baxter would sort of skip to answer the phone or the door. It also made note about how Jennifer's character seemed to be completely useless. So the only line of dialogue that Victoria Jackson has in the sketch is literally "Yeah!" |
