The 75th annual Tony Awards, taking place Sunday, June 12 at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, becomes the last of the major awards shows to end the practice of showing a tape-delayed broadcast outside the Eastern and Central time zones. Last year, the first two hours of the Tonys were shown on Paramount+ with the final two hours on CBS. This year, the first hour will be shown on Paramount+ starting at 7 p.m. ET. CBS will show the remaining three hours starting at 8 p.m. ET. (Paramount+ will also stream CBS' portion of the awards show show.) The 75th Tony Awards mark a return to normalcy after last year's COVID-delayed ceremony aired on Sept. 26, leading to historic low viewership of 2.62 million. |

Ariana DeBose to host the Tony Awards
The Oscar-winning and Tony-nominated West Side Story star has been tapped to host the 75th annual Tony Awards on June 12 at New York’s Radio City Music Hall. DeBose, who won an Oscar earlier this year for West Side Story, was previously nominated for a Tony in 2018 for Summer: The Donna Summer Musical. “I’m coming home! I’m so honored to celebrate 75 years of excellence in theater, but more importantly every member of this community who poured themselves into making sure the lights of Broadway have the opportunity to shine brightly once again,” DeBose said. “This is a dream come true.” |

Who will write the Tony Awards if the writers' strike is still going on in June?
But for producers of the ceremony's June 11 broadcast on CBS, the date carries a new cause for insomnia: Who will write the thing? |

I thought telecast of the Tonys had to be cancelled. Yet CBS is still advertising it.

2024 Tony Awards ceremony was a vast improvement over last year
The producers and director were the same, but so much about this year's telecast was a vast improvement on that of previous years. The pacing was swifter: The main broadcast ended on time and the pre-broadcast ended early. The dialogue was more dignified: no brainless chatter or mawkish introductions. |
