Clair's behavior in the infamous "Off to See the Wretched" episode

Did Clair "go too far" when it came to scolding Vanessa over her behavior? I get that it would within reason for parents to get pissed off at their kids for doing something stupid or dangerous. But I was legitimately scared for Vanessa when Clair was going off on her.



Clair in a way, came across like a condescending, stark, raving lunatic. And it probably goes hand in hand with the theory that The Cosby Show was deliberately designed to be a sitcom where the adults were always right no matter what and the kids were put in their place. Of course, if one of your kids snuck off to have "big fun" in Baltimore with a heavy metal band like Vanessa and her friends did, how exactly would you react and handle it?



I'll give the show credit in that there's no tidy resolution.
