How come there was no formal closure to Chrissy's character - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Suzanne Somers was initially written out of the series by explaining that Chrissy went off to care for her ailing mother. But later on, Chrissy tells Janet over the phone that her mom was feeling much better. And then Chrissy pretty much disappeared from the series a few episodes later, never to be spoken of or mentioned (save for the 1982 "Best of Three's Company" special that Lucille Ball hosted) again. I get that there was a lot of animosity behind the scenes toward Suzanne Somers but save from randomly and abruptly killing her off, the writers could've displayed better regard to the viewers' feelings of the show and the Chrissy Snow character.

Because she was written out of the show due to the actress being fired. The only conclusion we can come to is that her mother's health never improved to the point where she was able to come back to Santa Monica. That's about the closet thing to a closure we have regarding the chrissy character

Im guessing it was some type of closure on ABC during that season for viewers but not really necessary for syndication

It does not matter that Suzanne was fired. They should have shown some respect to their product and their loyal audience. They never did for their entire run. Jenili harrison's character just vanished as well and they didn't hate her. They just erased her like she never existed. All it would have taken is a brief mention that Chrissy is getting married and won't be coming back. Anything. But she just vanished never to be mentioned again. No explanation as to why she stopped calling. Nothing. lol

There was closure for Cindy she went to UCLA. And as far as Chrissy that wasn't go to give her a positive closure since she was let go

IN the 70s, storylines weren't written all nice and neat and perfect. Loose ends were not necessarily tied up.

Yeah, as CM says, in early TV, characters were written out with little to no explanation. By the 1980s, however, many shows were becoming more sophisticated: producers might offer some on-air explanation of why the character was suddenly gone ("Kimberly has moved to France. Now let's have dinner with my new wife and stepson"). These on-air explanations didn't always happen, but it was becoming more common. On today's shows, they almost always either have a farewell episode, or at least throw in a line about the character moving on, even if it doesn't always make sense.

I was thinking the same thing, TV show writers especially for sitcoms weren't concerned about continuity to them it was just another paycheck to cash in on those syndication royalties.

If you watched TC on ABC you probably didnt think about Cindy after she moved out to care. Its mainly us who wondered that discovered the show in syndication

Cindy was probably so disgusted/hurt by Janet's behavior when she was wearing the blonde wig, that she never visited them again.

(like how Lana never bothered with Jack again when she thought he was fooling around with Janet and/or Chrissy, and poured a drink over him- "Stay way from me, you beast!")

Lana and Jack wasnt dating so that wouldnt make much sense why she was never around again. She probably started dealing with someone else and didnt renew her lease. Cindy met new friends at UCLA or a guy and didnt have much time to visit anymore

TVFF- that wouldn't matter to Lana. Why did she get so upset over thinking he was fooling around with both roommates, after all? We saw how bothered she was by it when she was sitting at the bar. She did tell him to stay away from her. One explanation is that Jack and the girls never bothered to tell her that the advice-column article wasn't about them and that was it.

Just find it interesting that the last time we see Cindy is when Janet made her feel bad at the Beagle. We don't see any apology or any resolution. Fun to speculate.

Despite the situation with Suzanne, the writers still could have made a final reference to Chrissy, indicating she was not returning to the apartment.

It just the Lana character looney. Why would it matter to her if Jack was sleeping with chrissy or janet when her and jack was not intimate with each other? lol It was not one episode where Jack showed interest in her. And Chrissy didnt return because her mom never got better to the point where she could take care herself
