Tirico will host most of the first week of the Beijing Olympics on-location in Beijing, China. He'll then fly to Los Angeles to host the rest of the Winter Olympics remotely while also hosting NBC's coverage of the Super Bowl on Feb. 13. |

Mike Tirico will host his final Winter Olympics primetime show from Beijing tonight, returning to the U.S. earlier than planned
Tirico was originally scheduled to host the Winter Olympics' primetime coverage through Thursday night, then fly to the Super Bowl LVI location in Los Angeles. Instead, he'll host tonight from Beijing, fly to NBC Sports headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut to host Wednesday and Thursday's shows before flying to Los Angeles for the Super Bowl. Maria Taylor will host Tuesday's Winter Olympics coverage. ALSO: Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony viewership tumbles 43% from 2018, with 16 million tuning in. |

80. ENTERTAINMENT LAWYER 02/07 **7** This sports anchor is coming home earlier than planned, because he was ordered to leave, after the comments he made about the host country several days ago. Mike Tirico/"NBC" (NBC’s Mike Tirico Returning From Beijing Olympics Earlier Than Planned) Mike Tirico kicked off NBC's Beijing Winter Olympics coverage by citing China’s genocide against the Uyghurs “Everything and everyone attached to these Games is facing questions,” Tirico said before the live coverage of the Opening Ceremonies. “The United States government is not here, a diplomatic boycott announced this fall joined by Canada, Great Britain and Australia citing China’s human rights record and the US government’s declaration that the Chinese Communist Party is guilty of committing genocide on the Uyghur Muslim population in Western Xinjiang region.” Later in the hour, NBC aired a more detailed look at China’s treatment of the Uyghurs. According to Timothy Burke, "NBC mentioned China's genocide of the Uyghur people 16 times during the (live) Opening Ceremony broadcast, though half of those were due to how the ceremony ended. The word 'genocide' itself was spoken eight times." ALSO: |
