Was the 1957 movie No Down Payment a major influence on Knots Landing
Like the the original premise of Knots Landing, No Down Payment was a soap opera about a number of married couples all living on the same street in a middle class development in Southern California.
Sleazy Tony Randall and stalwart Sheree North are the prototype Richard and Laura; Cameron Mitchell and Joanne Woodward are Gary and Valene (they're from the south and they even conceived a child out of wedlock years prior and gave her up for adoption); newlyweds Jeffrey Hunter and his wife are Kenny and Ginger; and morally upright Pat Hingle and Barbara Rush are Sid and Karen. |
