"When I was a kid, I never slept well the night before Christmas, but not for the obvious reasons. That poem, '’Twas the Night Before Christmas,' which in my mind was all about a home invasion, scared the bejesus out of me and kept me up until the wee hours," David writes for Graydon Carter's Air Mail. "As an adult, I’ve never slept well, either, filled with dread at the prospect of close social encounters with what seemed like hundreds of relatives the following day. I’m a creature of habit and can’t tolerate anything that throws me off my normal routine. That’s why I detest all holidays, but none as much as Christmas." |

Just saying, but he is Jewish and as a matter of course, Jews dont celebrate Christmas. Now Haunkkuh is basically "Jewish Christmas" and it is around the same time, so he might dislike people coming over if they did. Usually we get our dislike of visitors in our homes from our parents so they might have also been this way.
I am basically the same way and my parents had very few people coming over to visit. Both had friends, they just didnt come to our house (rarely). Our extended family also lived several hundred miles away, so we never had Christmas with them, and if we did, it would have been exhausting, not to mention several of them drank a lot. Johnny Carson also disliked people coming over and he hated parties. It isnt that we (including me) are anti-social, we just appreciate privacy. But Larry has a huge amount of money and can buy an island somewhere and live alone and walk naked on the beach. An idea for a future show David, if you happen to read these boards. Funny that is character is usually in social situations and parties, but the character David usually pisses off someone there. Maybe he is trying to tell us something. |
