Remember, way back when, pre-Tonight Show, when Leno was actually funny?

Leno is a very calculating guy with a deceptively disarming personality. When he was permanent guest host for Johnny, he worked his ass off and hired the best writers to do one good show a week. After he took over the Tonight Show, he stole half his show from Letterman and the other half from Howard Stern and made it completely unfunny.

If you read "The Late Shift", a book about the war to follow Johnny, you would know that Leno hid in a storage room during an NBC executive conference call to decide who would get the Tonight Show to spy on the NBC team and find out who was on his side.

I have The Late Shift book, saw the HBO movie, and have the follow up book on how he screwed over Conan.

Jay is funny. Letterman and Conan are not, but Conan did write the best episode of The Simpsons back in the 90s. As for how Jay got the Tonight Show, it's irrelevant. Jay was the regular guest host for years and the show was going to be his because the audience was already used to him.

Yes. Jay is funnier than Letterman and Conan combined. Conan is the one who never should have stolen the Tonight Show from Jay in the first place. It is pathetic how Jay's haters are trying to torpedo my thread here. This thread was about You Bet Your Life, which has absolutely nothing to do with David Letterman or Conan O'Brien.

Jay Leno's standup is being dropped from You Bet Your Life

The Fox syndicated game show opened many Season 1 episodes with Leno doing a few minutes of jokes before introducing the contestants. While Leno chatted with contestants in Season 1, the extra time will allow more time to mingle with the contestants. “It’s more fun to get right to it,” says Leno. “I’m always anxious to get to the contestants.”

It has gotten a lot better. The answers aren't easy which I like.
