Luke and Laura were married in “General Hospital” 40 years ago Today!!!
40 years ago on Tuesday, November 17, 1981 this make believe couple married on General Hospital in a 2 day event on ABC TV. A daytime TV record was set and the ratings were better here than for the REAL wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana earlier that same year in 1981! A disturbing fact is that in the storyline that introduced “Luke Spencer” to General Hospital, he raped Laura! Anthony Geary portrayed “Luke” and Genie Francis (real life wife of actor/director Jonathan Frakes) played “Laura.”

I recorded it on my vcr since I was working while it aired but I watched it as soon as I got home. Such a cool episode.

My mom saw this episode of General Hospital when it first debuted and she thought Luke and Laura were the most wonderful couple ever and it's no wonder why this wedding is one of the most remembered soap opera weddings ever because Genie Francis was so talented in the role of Laura and when she got together with Anthony Geary who played Luke you knew that General Hospital could come up with a wonderful couple. In fact Christopher Cross's song Think Of Laura is written about the Laura character and was a hit. I wonder how the idea for the wedding came about? Was General Hospital inspired by Princess Diana's wedding or had Luke and Laura been crushes for a long time?
