The Reading Rainbow and Star Trek: The Next Generation alum has signed on to star in a new game show adaptation of the classic board game, produced by eOne and Hasbro. Burton hinted he may host a new game show when he told Trevor Noah on The Daily Show in September he was no longer interested in hosting Jeopardy! "We’re trying to figure out what the right game show for LeVar Burton would be," Burton said at the time. Trivial Pursuit will be shopped to networks and streamers, and it should be snapped up considering Burton's popularity. Trivial Pursuit has been adapted for TV several times. Wink Martindale hosted a version in the mid-1990s, while Christopher Knight hosted the most recent adaptation in 2008 and 2009. “Trivial Pursuit is one of the best-known brands in the gaming universe," Burton said. "I am thrilled to have partnered with Hasbro and eOne to bring this beloved game to market as a premium show for television." Tara Long, president of Global Unscripted Television at eOne, added: "LeVar Burton has been an iconic member of American pop culture for decades from Roots to Reading Rainbow to Star Trek and beyond. His love for intellectual curiosity paired with his ability to connect with audiences worldwide make him the perfect partner to bring Hasbro’s beloved trivia game to households in a new and exciting way." |

Oh so that's why Levar Burton decided not to host Jeopardy after all? He was selected to host Trivial Pursuit and it should be interesting to see how great Levar Burton will do as a game show host. My aunt was addicted to the Wink Martindale version of Trivial Pursuit and would watch it every time it came on and she adored it so much my cousin bought her the board game for Christmas. Is this version of Trivial Pursuit gonna be syndicated or is it gonna shown on a cable channel?

LeVar Burton: Jeopardy! hosting rejection left me "not just disappointed, but wrecked"
Burton, who is hosting the Scripps National Spelling Bee this week, tells Newsy's In the Loop, according to EW: "I honestly thought that I was well-suited for it. As it turns out, it really wasn't a competition, after all, the fix was in." He adds that "what I learned from the experience, really, is that it reinforced my belief that everything happens for a reason, even if you cannot discern the reason in the moment. In the fullness of time, everything will be revealed. And like I said, it was I think in that first week of feeling really sort of not just disappointed, but wrecked. I didn't expect that I would not be their choice for host." |
