Netflix’s Mega-Hit "Squid Game" will Generate Almost $900 Million in Value

Netflix projects the Korean-language mega-hit "Squid Game" will create almost $900 million dollars in value.

In a confidential document reviewed by Bloomberg News, "Squid Game" generated $891.1 million in impact value, Netflix’s proprietary metric describing the measure of a title’s economic contribution based on subscriber viewing.

The nine-episode Netflix original series follows debt-laden contestants in a life-or-death competition to win a grand prize of $38.5 million dollars. Following its debut on September 17th, the survival drama has become Netflix’s most-watched series ever, amassing 111 million viewers in its first month.

Squid Game Season 2 Greenlighted at Netflix

It’s official — Netflix has renewed its biggest series, "Squid Game", for a second season. The followup had been in development, and Netflix brass — as well as the series’ writer, director and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk and main cast — had teased a return of the show following the runaway success of the initial installment.

Season 2 has now received a green light. In a letter for fans, Cheol-su confirmed the new chapter and revealed who may be back for it and what new character will join the show.

“Gi-hun returns. The front man returns,” he said. “The man in the suit ddakji might be back. You also will be introduced to Young-hee’s boyfriend, Cheol-su.”

Hwang Dong-hyuk also reflected on the series’ road to the screen and massive success.

“It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year,” he said. “But if took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular series ever.”

Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-Hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo will all return for "Squid Game" Season 2, Netflix confirmed during its annual Tudum fan event on Saturday.

They will be joined by four new cast members — Yim Si-Wan, Hang Ha-Neul, Park Sung-Hoon and Yang Dong-Geun.

"Squid Game" is returning to Netflix for Season 2 on December 26 – a dystopian treat just after Christmas – and the streamer has revealed that its biggest ever show will conclude with its third season.

The second season of the Korean drama series returns with some familiar faces and some new ones and also will return for Season 3 in 2025, marking the end of the smash hit, in scripted form at least.
