Sad Redd Foxx Passed Away 30 Years Ago This Month

This past Monday (October 11), officially marked 30 years since he was stricken by a fatal heart attack while on the set of The Royal Family:

I knew he died but I never knew what was going on behind the scenes.

I think that just before he was stricken with his heart attack, Redd was literally doing an interview for Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous before he was asked by one the producers to rehearse once more, much to Redd's annoyance.

It was definitely Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous that Redd was doing his final interview with. Here's an article from Jet magazine from October 1991.

It recently occurred to me that Redd Foxx would've turned 100 years of age this past December. I vaguely recall in his final interview, he mentioned that in about a month and some time, he'll turn 70. Considering that Redd was a chain smoker and dabbled with cocaine, it is sort of a mild miracle that he was able to live relatively long as he did (but not long enough for the sake of The Royal Family). I have to remind myself that Redd was actually a lot younger than the character that he was playing on Sanford and Son.
