September 11: Happy Birthday Tyler Hoechlin

Tyler Hoechlin is celebrating his 34th birthday. Hoechlin was born and grew up in Riverside County in California. He began acting in commercials as a child.

These days, Hoechlin is best know as the latest actor to portray a certain Clark Kent, aka Superman, on television. He began making guest appearances on Supergirl in 2016, and also appeared in several of the Arrowverse crossover episodes. Earlier this year, he began starring on the latest Arrowverse series, Superman & Lois.



Hoechlin made his feature film debut as a boy, in a family drama titled Family Tree. A few years later, he costarred as Michael Sullivan, Jr., in Road to Perdition. A year later, in 2003, he began appearing as Martin Brewster on 7th Heaven, remaining with the series until it ended its run in 2007.

However, at that time of his life, Hoechlin was more interested in baseball than acting. He won a Division I scholarship from Arizona State, and then transferred to UC-Irvine. It was only after a serious hamstring injury during his junior season that he pursued acting full time.

In the late 2000s, Hoechlin made some TV guest appearances, and starred in a TV horror film titled Grizzly Rage. In 2011, he landed the regular role of Derek Hale on Teen Wolf. He was with the series for four seasons and returned in its sixth season for guest appearances.

Hoechlin put his baseball experience to good use in two 2016 films, Richard Linklater’s Everybody Wants Some!! and Joseph Mazzello’s Undrafted. In an interesting bit of casting, he starred with Kate Bosworth (Lois Lane in Superman Returns) in the post-apocalyptic film The Domestics.

Hoechlin starred as bodybuilder Joe Weider in Bigger, and in the romantic comedy Can You Keep a Secret? His most recent feature appearance was in last year’s Palm Springs.
