TV "The Conners" Season 4 Premiere will be Taped Live

"The Conners" To Open Season 4 with Live Premiere
by Nellie Andreeva
August 26, 2021

ABC’s top comedy series "The Conners" has set its second live episode — the upcoming Season 4 premiere on Sept. 22. The announcement was made during the network’s portion of the summer TCA virtual press tour.

The cast will perform live for both the East and West Coast broadcasts, joined by surprise guests as well as virtual appearances by fans.

ABC and "The Conners" are launching the “You Can Be A Conner” sweepstakes.

As part of the storyline in the episode, a Conner family member will call each sweepstakes winner for a live conversation regarding how they deal with some of the same life issues that the Conners navigate on a daily basis, adding an improv element to the telecast as actors interact with viewers live on the air.

We’re going to be calling our friends, randomly selected, and talking to them live on air about their lives and how they relate to the Conners and their lives,” the series’ executive producer/showrunner Bruce Helford said today during ABC’s portion of TCA.

It’s never been done before and its going to be something pretty special.

Interesting news!
Also I didn't expected the show to start as soon as 9/22!

The Conners' live Season 4 premiere featured calls to fans, plus a tribute to Norm Macdonald

Titled “Trucking Live in Front of a Fully Vaccinated Studio Audience,” Wednesday's premiere had Ames McNamara call up The Conners fans live as they pretended to be distant relatives of the Conner family. "While people from all across the country entered a sweepstakes to have the opportunity of appearing in the episode, no one knew who won until their phone rang," explains Variety's Danielle Turchiano. "In turn, the cast and crew of The Conners didn’t know what they would say when they were live on the air. Luckily for the ABC censors, everyone was on their best behavior." The end of the episode featured John Goodman with a sign that read “Dedicated to the memory of our friend and colleague Norm Macdonald.” Macdonald was a writer on Roseanne before joining SNL. “Here’s to you, Norm," the cast said in unison before the live episode faded to black.

I enjoyed the episode, but there was an awkward moment in the back of Ben's shop. The Stage Right (our left) brick wall didn't extend far enough, allowing the camera to capture the area behind it. Then Darlene had to sort of slink off camera instead of using a door. Soooo awkward!

Well, didn't love the episode, and I hope that the audience involvement will be kept as an experiment only for this premiere.
Hope they'll cut with the whole Ben and Darlene thing, it has been dragged long enough.
The show missed Becky, kinda ironic that back in the 90s they made whole seasons without Lecy, and now if she's missing an episode the show suffers from it.

I heard she was at a charity event.

I'm sure they won't continue the "call random people" thing; it was just a publicity stunt. But how cool would it be to be a Conner?

For a season premiere it was a really weak episode. The second one wasn’t much better.

It was different for sure, but I hope they go back to the way it was from here on out.

It was average I guess.
My impression is that the show is 'stalling' and needs some refreshing.
From the rumours I heard authors already thought of something! =)

Interesting! I enjoyed the latest two eps, but the show can use some new big stories for sure.

Was anyone else put off when they abruptly broke the fourth wall to show Darlene/Sara run across the stage to get to the other set?
